Description

"John George, a member of the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, was a steadfast and courageous champion for the mentally ill. John George Psychiatric Pavilion, the new psychiatric hospital opened in 1992, was named in his honor.

"John George Psychiatric Pavilion provides services to adults experiencing severe and disabling mental illnesses, regardless of ability to pay. When children and adolescents come to the Psychiatric Emergency Services or Crisis Services, they are referred to hospitals specializing in their treatment. Services are designed to assist in controlling illness, achieving personal goals, and developing skills and supports in order to live as independently as possible.

"The JGPP multi-disciplinary staff is skilled in the diagnosis and evaluation of complicated patients. JGPP is firmly committed to a multi-disciplinary team approach and draws on the strength of many different providers.

"JGPP has been recognized for its work in the field of Emergency Psychiatry. In Alameda County, JGPP is the service provider for 99% of all acute psychiatric emergencies." - from the website

Quote

“TBH was awarded the contract for the psychiatric services in the last week of January 2007 at John George Pavilion with a start date of February 1.

“An interim plan was set in place immediately and the transition was very smooth. By March they had a Chief of Inpatient Services and 4.5 full time permanent doctors in place augmented by locum tenens, all of the weekend coverage taken care of and even the vacation relief doctor hired with a start date of July. We are very impressed.

“In terms of concrete measure of quality: TBH in the first month reduced denial days from approximately 45 days to 5 days, with excellent psychiatric care and documentation. This contributed very positively to our bottom line. TBH’s doctors are exceptionally skilled and are team players. We are very excited about partnering with TBH to bring John George to a center of excellence.”
