Endorsements: JGPP Evaluation  

The following is an evaluation authored by Bill Manns, COO, of John George Psychiatric Pavilion, in early May 2007.


Traditions Behavioral Health – First Quarter Evaluation


  • Staffing Improvements.
  • TBH started January 31, 2006 and immediately increased the physician staffing levels on the units.

o Staffed inpatient units at 83% since day one of contract.
o Staffed at 100% (including Locums) as of April 1st.

  • Successfully recruited five out of six (5/6) permanent staff to fill all contracted positions as of April 1st.
  • The sixth psychiatrist is slated to start on July 1st, 2007.
  • Traditions is recruiting for a seventh psychiatrist to cover vacations.

  • There has been a 50% increase in weekend physician staffing since the contract began which has increased weekend discharges.
  • Increase in communication between weekday and weekend doctors leading to consistency of care and follow through on plans.
  • Improved medication management of patients contributing to reduction of need for restraint and seclusion (R/S down by 50% in April).
  • Improved documentation and patient care management has lead to a reduction of the number of denied days and beginning impact on administrative days.

  • Presence of an Inpatient Chief of Psychiatry has lead to improved communication among the physician group, administration, and the other disciplines.
  • Increased patient and family satisfaction with communication from physicians.
  • Increased team communication especially with regards to collaboration on treatment planning.
